Optometrist receptionists help with the regular office responsibilities at optometry offices by answering phones, greeting patients and performing clerical duties. You must have strong multi-tasking, interpersonal and organizational skills and are expected to be compassionate and discrete. This role is critical, since you provide the first impression for patients coming into our office. This is especially important in a medical environment where people may be apprehensive about health issues. The effective receptionist is able to multitask and respond to the needs of the patients and other staff efficiently and calmly.

Office/Reception Responsibilities:

  • Greet and attend to patients in person and over the phone
  • Professionally assist doctor, staff, patients and visitors
  • Perform duties within HIPAA regulations
  • Maintain confidentiality of all doctor, staff and patient information
  • Schedule appointments
  • Maintain patient charts
  • Maintaining inventory of office supplies
  • Maintain office equipment
  • Pre-testing patient vision
  • Maintaining supplies of eyeglasses frames and contact lenses
  • Authorizing insurance and billing
  • Giving patients medical history, office policy, HIPAA and insurance forms to complete
  • Mail out monthly appointment reminders to patients
  • Answering patient/customer questions
  • Complete accurate documentation of patient history and care
  • Assist with admissions/treatment as per agreed protocols
